The Lake District. I love it. It’s my second home (or at least I wish it was – maybe one day!) I absolutely love being a Lake District Wedding Photographer. So I completely understand why you’ve chosen this area for your wedding day. Here’s a fun fact – most of the weddings I photograph in the Lake District are for people who don’t live there but choose to travel there for their wedding day. It’s the place where people went on holiday as kids, or for weekend get aways with friends, or visit for outside adventures or maybe even a romantic getaway. And a few lucky folk get to call it home.  It’s a special place to lots of people for lots of reasons. So it comes as no surprise that many people choose to head this way for their wedding day.

I’m lucky enough to live close enough to the Lake District that I get to photograph a number of weddings here each year but every time I visit it feels like I’m going on a little holiday of my own! Because most of my couples are ‘eloping’ to the Lakes for their wedding day, their weddings have a distinct holiday/destination wedding vibe! This makes it even more fun to photograph weddings in the Lake District as guests let their hair down!

The great news is, if you’re planning to head to the Lakes for your wedding day, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to wedding venues. Barns, farms, hotels, country pubs – it has them in abundance. I’ve put together this page with some of my favourite pictures I’ve captured in the Lakes, a few of my favourite Lake District weddings, some tips for planning your big day in the Lakes and a few of my recommended venues and suppliers.  Enjoy!

Your Lake District Wedding Venue

If you’ve chosen to get married in the Lake District then your first task is choosing which venue is going to host your flipping awesome wedding. I’m sorry to tell you that this won’t be an easy job – there are just so many cracking venues to choose from! The Lake District is packed with incredible wedding venues. There’s literally something for everyone. However big or small, traditional or alternative, relaxed or super glam your big day will be, you’ll find the perfect wedding venue somewhere in the Lakes.

Hotel Wedding Venues in the Lakes

A hotel can be a really good call for your wedding up here in the Lake District. Being such a popular tourist destination, the Lakes is crammed with beautiful hotels of all shapes and sizes. The benefit they offer for people heading up here to get married is that they make it very easy for your guests and planning the logistics of the day. If you’re having a large wedding there are plenty of big hotels that can easily accommodate everyone – Lodore Falls and Armathwaite Hall are two of my favourite large hotels in the Lake District.  If you’ve got a smaller wedding party and fancy something a bit more intimate then you’re still spoilt for choice. What about Broadoaks near Windermere or for something a little different, The Wild Boar which more country pub than hotel – perfect for a relaxed wedding in the Lakes.

Quirky, intimate or unusual wedding venues in the Lake District

If a more traditional hotel doesn’t do it for you then the good news is there are tonnes of quirky, unusual or alternative wedding venues in the Lake District too. You can choose from beautiful village halls, to rustic barn or stunning manor houses. Cote How is one of my very favourite Lake District wedding venues and combines the benefits of a small but elegant manor house with a party barn where you can dance the night away! Or what about Lingholm Estate, where you can  be Lord and Lady of the manor for a day or two!

Tips for Planning Your Lake District Wedding

If you’re one of the many couples who head to the Lake District every year to get married you might find yourselves coming up against the same troubles. It’s tough organising a wedding in an area you don’t live. It can be much harder to find suppliers or know who to trust.

Arrange a couple of visits – I know, what a struggle – spending MORE time up in the Lakes. Sucks right? But hear me out. Wedding planning can be a long and time consuming business, even when you’re planning your day in your home town. But when you’re long distance wedding planning it can be even harder! If you’re getting married in the Lakes you may need to schedule in 3-4 visits to the area before the wedding day. The first to find your venue, the second to meet with local suppliers and choose your wedding team and the third and fourth visit to finalise details before the day.

Ask your venue and other suppliers for their recommendations. As a wedding photographer I work with a huge array of local suppliers at each wedding. I see them behind the scenes and hear the rave reviews from my couples. I have a recommended supplier list that I send out to all of my couples once they book in with me.

Schedule the time on your wedding day for some amazing pictures. You’ve travelled to this incredible place, surrounded by some of the best landscapes you could possibly wish for – let’s get out there and make some beautiful images! I normally ask my couples to make sure we can have at least 20 minutes uninterrupted for portraits  but some couples choose to head off somewhere spectacular to get some portraits in their full wedding attire. If this is something you’d like to do then yes yes yes! Just make sure you schedule enough time in your wedding timeline to accommodate it.

Why Choose me as your Lake District Wedding Photographer?

No matter where you’re getting married it’s super important to choose the perfect photographer for your wedding day. There are so many wonderful wedding photographers in the Lake District itself and many more who are happy to travel there for a wedding day. So take your time to pick the best one for you.

My  style of wedding photography is very relaxed. I’m very lucky to work with couples who trust me to be a part of their wedding day. I aim to be a member of your wedding tribe, not just a wedding photographer! I’ll be there in the morning for prep, helping with dresses and buttonholes and calming those pre-wedding nerves – alongside taking some cracking pictures of course!

For most of a wedding day I aim to blend into the day. I shoot in documentary style which basically means capturing all the lovely goings on without interfering. I do however LOVE capturing some cracking portraits of my newlyweds. I know, I know – being in front of the camera is completely weird. Don’t fret – I’m a dab hand at this bit. We’ll head off somewhere gorgeous (not hard in the Lake District!) and have a fun 15 minutes away from the rest of your guests. You’ll be surprised just how many pictures of you looking like hotties I’ll capture in such a short amount of time!  My wedding packages are up to 10 hours long which means I’ll be with you for some dance floor fun!
