Churchill Hotel Wedding – Wedding Photography in York

BEAMING! That pretty much sums up Hayley and Andy on their wedding day. They had a beautiful, relaxed wedding in York centre surrounded by friends and family. Hayley and I have been friends since we were 11 (eeek that makes me feel old) so it was a double pleasure to be a part of their day. I travelled to the beautiful city of York where the couple have made their home. Friday night was spent eating a yummy Italian meal with the brides family (perks of 20 years of friendship) before we were up bright and early for a beautiful city centre summer wedding.

Getting Married at the Churchill Hotel

Hayley and Andy’s approach to wedding planning is one to be applauded. Minimum stress was absolutely key. Doing things their own way was equally important. They chose the gorgeous Churchill Hotel in the centre of the city in order to make things easier for family travelling from across the country to be there on the day. This hotel is totally beautiful, individually styled and very boutique. Hayley, her bridesmaid and her mum were getting ready in the stunning bridal suite where I joined them for prep. The interior of this boutique hotel is stunning – so quirky and unusual. Not your bog standard hotel my any means! Hayley was getting ready in the huge bridal suite whilst Andy with his best man used one of the other lovely rooms.

The Wedding Ceremony at the Churchill Hotel

The couple had chosen to hold their short and sweet civil ceremony in the hotel. The room is perfect if you’re having a relatively intimate wedding. Again, another room with beautiful decor and stunning natural light streaming in through the window. The wedding ceremony is my favourite part of the day so it was even extra special to capture this for my two friends.

After the ceremony guests headed out to the garden and to explore the hotel whilst enjoying drinks and chats with the newlyweds.

Marquee Wedding at the Churchill Hotel

When Hayley and Andy first booked the Churchill hotel for their wedding day, the plan was to hold everything inside the hotel. But building work meant that the rooms inside the venue were altered and were no longer suitable for their wedding plans. The venue came to the rescue by hiring a marquee for Hayley and Andy’s wedding day to ensure they could still have the numbers of guests they’d invited. The marquee offered a blank canvas for the couple to put their own mark on the day. Being massive foodies  they chose to have a glorious cake of cheese and friends of the couples provided their own specially brewed ale for the day. These details didn’t stop in the marquee –  Hayley’s bouquet included a variety of herbs and Andy’s buttonhole was made from chilli peppers!

After sneaking the couple away for some slightly tipsy, but nevertheless, beautiful and relaxed portraits, we rejoined the party to the amazing music of the New York Brass Band – you need to check these guys out. Never have I seen so many people up dancing at a wedding!

Massive thanks to Hayley and Andy for asking me to be their photographer but more importantly for being my friends. Love you!
