I don’t think I can emphasis enough how much I enjoyed being part of Jane and John’s Lake District wedding day. Not even just their wedding day – their whole wedding planning experience. In this busy, busy world we live in, it’s quite rare for couples to contact me initially by phone. But that’s exactly what Jane did, and from the first time I spoke to her about her winter wedding plans, I knew that I wanted to be the one to photograph their day. Fast forward a few months and we met in person for the first time on their engagement shoot. As well as getting some beautiful images of Jane and John and their daughter in the winter sunshine we also had a chance to chat about their wedding plans.
For Jane and John the day was all about friends and family and celebrating. And definitely not about tradition or formality. They chose a beautiful boutique hotel venue in the Lake District because of it’s stunning surroundings, exclusive use and intimate feel. And to keep with the theme of ignoring tradition, the couple planned to have a first look before the wedding ceremony and walk down the aisle together.
Winter weddings are always a bit nerve-wracking, but when Storm Doris made an appearance the day before the wedding I was certainly getting a bit anxious! When we arrived at the venue in the morning the wind was blowing a gail and the rain was hurtling down. Jane and John did not bat an eyelid. For them, it was all about getting married and enjoying the party. After getting ready in the beautiful lodge in the garden, Jane donned her walking boots, hitched up her gorgeous Monsoon (appropriate!) wedding dress and posh shoes in hand walked up to Broadoaks where John was waiting for her.
We made the most of the beautiful hotel, windows, doorways and interior to get some images of the couple together before the ceremony started. As guests arrived they were shown into the ceremony room and I love the fact that it was so cosy and intimate with many guests sitting on sofas around the edge of the room. Watching Jane and John walk in together was just perfect! What made it even more special was that the couple tied the knot on the 3 year anniversary of their first date!
After the ceremony there was time for guests to chat and mingle, eat and dance. Finally the rain stopped in the evening and we had the opportunity to take everyone out for some sparkler fun.
Jane and John – huge congratulations on your triumph of a winter wedding, it was everything I imagined. Thank you for choosing me as your wedding photographer. I loved every single minute of it.
