wedding photography - A Lake District village hall wedding
Katie and Troy's autumn village hall wedding in the Lake District was bloody perfect! I love my occasional jaunts into the Lakes to photograph weddings - it always feels a little bit like a holiday. Cumbria is Katie's home but after moving to New Zealand in 2012 and being set up on a date with Troy, the couple have made their lives together on the other side of the world. But the Lake District was chosen as the location for the couple to tie the knot. Which did not make things easy! Think extra visas, lots of paperwork, different timezones, lots of planning over emails and a couple of extra long trips home. But it was all so worth it!
Katie and Troy were surrounded by Cumbrian and New Zealand friends and family as they exchanged vows in the beautiful village church, close to Katie's family farm. I met Katie there in the morning for prep - greeted by her lovely Dad and brother who still had the cows to look after - farming does not stop for weddings! Kathryn headed off to Troy who was staying with his family in a nearby holiday cottage.
Katie, a huge horse lover and now an equine vet, travelled to church in the most suitable way - in a horse drawn carriage! As friends and family gathered in the village church, Katie and her father clip-clopped into the village in style! After the ceremony the newly weds were whisked away to the next village for an afternoon tea picnic whilst their guests headed to the village hall for their own drinks and food. I tagged along for a little while so we could get some beautiful portraits in the autumn light.
Village hall weddings are my absolute fave - I love how personalised they are. And this one was no different. There was a real mix of New Zealand and Cumbrian influences throughout the day. With lovely autumnal themed decor and an amazing cake. When Katie and Troy rejoined the party there was time for lots of relaxed chats, speeches, laughter, food and drink.
What a fantastic day Katie and Troy arranged - even more so when you consider the difficulties of long distance wedding plan. I know they had lots of help from Katie's family in the Lake District and a cracking team of wedding suppliers too.
I'm so pleased to be able to share some of my favourite images with you. Big thank you to Katie and Troy for asking me to be a part of their big day. Scroll down to watch the full slideshow.
